 SUNDAY SCHOOL REPORT

January 2011 Annual Meeting

St. Matthew's SUNDAY SCHOOL REPORT

Sunday school has been having fun studying heros and sheros from the Old Testament. Look in the stair well to see a fallen Goliath. We made sling shots and saw how really difficult it was to fell just a cardboard cut out. Conclusion: “God must have really been on David’s side”. Lion masks helped bring alive the story of Daniel and origami whales were one of the crafts for our story of Jonah. We learned how Esther was so brave and saved the Jewish people and many other traditional stories.

For helping others, we made a couple of blankets to celebrate a birthday and help a teenager in the LOVE INC family. We also made cookies for the coffee hour and for St. Lucy’s day we learned how she was a martyr for distributing food and we decorated cookies, dressed in white with red sashes and make paper candle crowns. The “Ooohs” and “Ahhhs” when we walked into the church were very rewarding!

Lots of the kids like to act out the stories so the Christmas pageant has been on everyone’s mind. We also sure enjoyed singing with Father Mark and his guitar! Making gifts for family and friends kept us busy during Advent. For the Sunday right after Christmas we prepared a little birthday celebration for Jesus and we made angels by tracing our hands and feet, then we used spray adhesive to make them glittery.

Starting mid-January we will have TWO SESSION OF SUNDAY SCHOOL each week, until the end of the school year. There are children who come every week to the 9:15 service and probably more families that would come, if we offered Sunday School, so we are going to try it. Please pray that we get the necessary adult helpers! It just means taking attendance, helping individual children and assisting with one of the pre-planned activity/craft tables. Also, if you cannot help every week, but have a special talent, such as singing or reading a Bible story, or creating a craft idea or an active movement game, we would love to have your help whenever you can offer it.

Special thanks to Lisa, Travis, Cindy, Diane, Alysha , Mark, Tom, The Health Ministry, Tree, Nancy, Louise (and anyone I have forgotten!) the parents and the kids, for all the help and enthusiasm you have given to Sunday School. We expect Dawn back in January and will plan to have the classes on Godly Play after she returns.

SUNDAY SCHOOL PICTURES

Picture on the next pages, along with some from the pageant last year, if you want them. And I might have slipped in one of my grandson! At the end I will try to put in a collage of the photos.
