January 2007 Annual Meeting
REPORT from ORGANIST LAURA VINES
Here is a brief report on my (suspicious) activities of the last year!
I began the year as the organist for the 9:15 service, and occasionally
playing for the 11:15, or funerals. I added special music on the guitar or
banjo to the service at times. In July (was it?) Mary Ellen resigned as the
primary organist, and I took over playing for both services. I continued to
add special music and took over choosing the hymns. I have also played
funerals and one wedding.
I would personally like to see three things happen, which are as follows:
1. I (and many others) would like to see a song leader or leaders for the
9:15 service, so that when I am playing organ, there is someone to lead the
singing for the hymns. The 11:15 service has the choir to help out, and
though the 9:15 folks manage well, many of them have expressed that they
would really like a song leader. I would like to seek volunteers from those
attending the 9:15 service to do this at least some of the time.
2. I would like to explore getting people to sing with me or do the
occasional special music at 9:15.
3. I would like to see the songbook rejuvenated/revised, and enough copies
printed so that people don't have to search for one in the pews. I will be
glad to help with this.

From Laura: 'Heaven and Earth has two songs on it that go together. One of them is "Our Father", a version of the Lord's Prayer I received in a dream in June of 2005. It has great, life-changing power and beauty for me, and many people have found it affects them similarly. "Earth, My Home" I received through inspiration 100 days after the Lord's Prayer, and it is a sort of divine love song to our beautiful planet. It has also affected people profoundly, and is paired with the Lord's Prayer in a sort of marriage of heaven and earth.'
