Endowment Board of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church
Calling all Grant Requests
St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Endowment Board is seeking applications for the 2008 grants.  Each year the Endowment Board awards varying funds generated by interest and cash dividends earned by the Board over the previous 12 months ending December 31.  Grant requests must comply with the mission of the Endowment Board.  The Endowment Fund is operated to enhance the worship, ministry and mission outreach of St. Matthew’s.  Grants cannot be used for the general operating budget of St. Matthew’s.
Grant Application Criteria
All grant requests must be typewritten, signed, and received no later than June 30, 2008,to be considered.  The request must contain:
1.      Grant Requested by:  Name, Address, and Phone Number of individual or contact person for organization making the grant application.
2.      Purpose of the Grant:  A detailed description of how the grant funds would be used.
3.      Endowment Fund Goals:  The request should indicate how the requested funds will enhance the worship, ministry, and/or mission outreach of St. Matthew’s.
4.      Budget Description:  This request should provide a detailed budget showing the total cost of the program or purchase.  A written explanation of the budget must show how other funds, equipment or labor costs will be provided and impact if only partial funding is granted.
5.      Timeline:  The request will include a timeline that indicates when the grant project is to begin and a completion date.
6.      Reporting:  The request will include information concerning who will prepare the final financial and program reports concerning the operation of the grant.
Grant Evaluation Criteria
Grant requests will be evaluated based on the above criteria.  Other considerations include but are not limited to: matching resources (i.e. funds from other sources or labor provided), providing the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people, and benefiting the community more than the individual.
Preferred Disbursement Methods
·        Check mailed or given to organization or individual to whom an outreach grant has been given.
·        Check mailed to firm with order form for grants to purchased merchandise.
·        Check mailed or given to contact person by Endowment Fund Board, upon receipt, of
·        invoice for completed transaction for which the grant was given.
·        All checks mailed will be sent by certified mail.
 
Follow up Reporting
 
All grantees are required to provide a written report to the Endowment Fund Board as specified in the grant.  Failure to provide final report will disqualify recipient from future grants. This report should be received no later than June 30, 2009.
 
 
Used Grant Funds
 
If the St. Matthew’s Vestry rejects one or more of the recommended grants, the Endowment Fund Board may submit new grant recommendations or retain those funds not awarded to the Endowment Fund for addition to the principal or for distribution at the next grant date.
 
Grants or portions of grants that are not distributed within one year of the grant date shall remain in the Endowment Fund.  The retained funds will be either added to the principal of the Endowment Fund or held for distribution at the next grant date, at the discretion of the Endowment Fund Board.
